Privacy policy
What we process – and what we don’t.
We process personal data only to the extent that running this website, your enquiry or your job application requires it. This is governed by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the German Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG) and the German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act (TDDDG).
Personal data means any information relating to an identified or identifiable person – for example a name, an email address or an IP address. On this website, such data is generated in three places: when pages are retrieved (server log files), when you write to us and when you apply for a job with us. We do not use your data for advertising and do not pass it on to third parties – our hosting provider processes it solely on our behalf (section 2). We do not engage in automated decision-making within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR.
1. Controller
The controller responsible for data processing on this website within the meaning of Art. 4(7) GDPR is:
LIN.Media GmbHAm Pferdemarkt 52A
30853 Langenhagen
Germany
Represented by its managing director Andreas Karch.
Phone +49 511 54689020 · Fax +49 511 726351-05 · Email info@lin-media.de
For any questions about data protection you can reach us using the same contact details – most easily by email with the subject line “Datenschutz” (data protection). Further details about the company can be found in the legal notice.
2. Hosting and server log files
This website is hosted on servers operated by IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Straße 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany. The hosting provider processes, on our behalf, the data generated for technical reasons when the pages are accessed. We have concluded a data processing agreement with IONOS under Art. 28 GDPR.
Each time a file is retrieved – a page, image, video, font or PDF – your browser automatically transmits data to the web server. The server records this data in what are known as log files:
- IP address of the requesting device
- Date and time of access
- File requested and amount of data transferred
- Whether the request was successful (HTTP status code)
- Address of the previously visited page (referrer), if your browser sends it
- Browser type and version, and operating system
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest: delivering the website reliably and securely, finding faults and fending off attacks. We do not analyse the log files to identify you and do not combine them with other data. The hosting provider deletes the log files as soon as they are no longer needed for these purposes, and after eight weeks at the latest.
The log files are already anonymised when the hosting provider stores them (IPv4 addresses without the last octet, IPv6 addresses truncated to the network prefix). In this form we also analyse them for our visitor statistics – see section 8.
The connection between your browser and the server is encrypted using TLS – you can tell by the “https://” in the address bar.
3. Contact form and email
If you write to us via the contact form, we process the details you enter there. Name, email address and message are required fields; company, phone number and subject are optional. By ticking the box you confirm that you have read this privacy policy. To record this, we store the time of submission. The form transmits your details to our server in encrypted form, and the server forwards them by email to our mailbox.
If you email or call us directly, we likewise process the data you provide in order to answer your enquiry.
To protect against automated submissions, the form contains a field that is invisible to humans. If it is filled in, we discard the message. We do not use external verification services such as reCAPTCHA.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR if your enquiry concerns the conclusion of a contract or an existing contract – for example an enquiry about a production. In all other cases it is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is to handle and answer your enquiry.
We store your enquiry until it has been dealt with and no further queries are to be expected. If a contract is concluded, we keep the correspondence for as long as commercial and tax law require it (Section 257 HGB and Section 147 AO – the German Commercial Code and Fiscal Code). Please note: unencrypted email is not suitable for confidential content.
4. Job applications
You can apply to us by email, via the contact form (subject “Application”) or by post – for permanent and freelance positions as well as for an apprenticeship as a media designer for image and sound (German vocational qualification “Mediengestalter/-in Bild und Ton”). We process the data you send us for this purpose: contact details, CV, references and certificates, work samples and anything else you tell us.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR in conjunction with Section 26(1) of the German Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG): the processing is necessary to decide whether to enter into an employment or training relationship. If your application contains special categories of personal data – such as information about a severe disability or your health – we process it only to the extent required under employment law (Art. 9(2)(b) GDPR, Section 26(3) BDSG). Please only send us such information if you wish to.
Only the people involved in the selection process have access to your documents. We do not pass applications on to third parties.
If you are hired, we transfer the documents to your personnel file. Otherwise we delete them no later than six months after the process has ended; until then we can answer queries and examine claims under the German General Equal Treatment Act (AGG). If you would like to stay on file for future positions beyond that, this is only possible with your express consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time.
5. Linked social media profiles and external links
In the footer we link to our profiles on Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook. These are plain links: we do not embed any plugins, “Like” buttons, feeds or tracking pixels from these networks. As long as you do not click a link, none of these companies learns of your visit to our website.
When you click, you leave our site. From then on that provider’s privacy policy applies. If you are logged in there, the provider may be able to link your visit to your account.
The same applies to the “Get directions” link, which leads to Google Maps, and to all other external links on this website: the target page only opens when you click on it. The operators of those sites are responsible for the content and data processing there.
6. Spec sheets and downloads
The spec sheets for our OB vans HD1 and HD2 are hosted as PDFs (in German) on our own web server. You can download them without registering and without providing any data. Retrieving them merely creates an entry in the server log files (section 2) – as with every other file on this website. How often a spec sheet is downloaded is counted anonymously in our visitor statistics (section 8) – not who downloaded it.
7. Your rights
As a data subject you have the following rights in relation to us:
- Access (Art. 15 GDPR): to find out whether and which data we process about you, for what purpose and for how long.
- Rectification (Art. 16 GDPR) of inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Erasure (Art. 17 GDPR), unless a statutory retention obligation prevents it.
- Restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR).
- Data portability (Art. 20 GDPR): to receive the data you have provided to us in a commonly used, machine-readable format.
- Withdrawal of consent (Art. 7(3) GDPR) with effect for the future; the lawfulness of processing carried out until then remains unaffected.
To exercise your rights, simply send an informal message to info@lin-media.de or to the postal address above. We respond without undue delay, usually within one month.
Right to object
Where we process your data on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, you may object at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation (Art. 21(1) GDPR). We will then no longer process the data unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds that override your interests, rights and freedoms, or the processing serves to establish, exercise or defend legal claims. You can also object to the visitor statistics directly in section 8.
Complaint to a supervisory authority
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR) – for example the authority for your place of residence or the one responsible for us:
Der Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz Niedersachsen (State Commissioner for Data Protection, Lower Saxony, Germany)
lfd.niedersachsen.de ↗
8. Visitor statistics with Matomo – without cookies
We want to know how this website is used: which pages are viewed, where visits come from, whether the spec sheets are downloaded and whether the contact form works. For this purpose we use the open-source software Matomo. It runs exclusively on our own hosting space at IONOS SE in Germany (section 2); no data is transmitted to third parties.
No cookies. Matomo is configured not to set cookies and not to store anything in your browser. You are not recognised from one day to the next: Matomo distinguishes visits within a single day using a daily identifier calculated from technical characteristics of your browser, which can no longer be reconstructed after 24 hours. That is why we do not need a cookie banner.
What is recorded. The page viewed and the time, the previously visited website (without search terms or URL parameters), browser, operating system, screen resolution, language, the approximate country of origin, clicks on the spec sheets and on the phone number and email address links, and the successful submission of the contact form (without its content). Your IP address is truncated by the last two octets before it is stored (203.0.113.42 becomes 203.0.0.0); we also determine the country of origin only from the truncated address. A full IP address is not stored.
The legal basis is our legitimate interest under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR in tailoring the website to visitors’ needs and monitoring that it works properly. By not using cookies, truncating the IP address and keeping the daily identifier short-lived, we keep the intrusion to a minimum.
Retention period. We automatically delete individual visit records after 180 days; after that only aggregated figures remain, such as page views per month, which can no longer be linked to individuals.
Objection. You can object to the data collection at any time – by unticking the box below. So that your objection also applies to later visits, your browser then stores a single cookie named “mtm_consent_removed” (valid for up to 30 years), which contains no identifier and no personal data. If you delete your cookies, you will need to untick the box again. We also respect the “Do Not Track” browser signal: if it is enabled, your visit is not recorded in the first place.
JavaScript must be enabled to object – without JavaScript, no data is collected anyway.
All components of the site – fonts, images, background videos, stylesheet, scripts and spec sheets – are served from our own web server, as is Matomo. We do not embed any third-party content: no fonts from Google Fonts, no maps, no video platforms, no advertising pixels, no social media plugins.
9. Changes to this policy
We update this policy whenever the website, the legal situation or our processing changes. The current version can always be found at this address.
